Many volunteers contribute to the work of the Kamah Association. We see our volunteers as a great asset, and do all we can to make them feel part of the Kamah extended family.
One-Year Program for Young Volunteers
Each year, about 20 high school graduates come to Harduf for a year of pre-army volunteer service or as part of their National Service. They live as agroup in Harduf and are integrated into the work of both Beit Elisha and Tuvia. Those who volunteer in the Tuvia Community, serve as "big brothers and sisters". They initiate cultural activities, accompany children in their leisure activities, and help with school work and house chores. Those who volunteer in the Beit Elisha community are involved in all spheres of life: assisting residents in their basic activities of daily life, working with them in workshops, and participating in leisure and cultural activities.
The volunteers are an inseparable part of the staff, and participate in all staff meetings. Each volunteer is paired with a member of the Kamah professional staff for individual support. Volunteers have a weekly day of enrichment in which they attend lectures and meetings with educators and therapists, receive individual therapy sessions and participate in group discussions.
Mentors in the Tuvia Community
Our mentors are adults from Harduf and the area who volunteer for several hours a week tutoring children from the Tuvia Community in their after school hours. Volunteers are in constant contact with the house-parents and social workers and are part of the support system the children receive. The one-on-one time mentors provide is highly important for the children: children eagerly await tutors' visits and consider them a treat.
Host Families
A host family is a family willing to host in their home one of the children of the Tuvia Community that either lack a biological family or whose family is unable to care for them and provide for their needs. Children go "home" to their host families every third weekend, on Jewish holidays and during school vacations.
Social Work Students and Special Education Trainees
The Kamah Community warmly welcomes students who want to work with us as part of their practical internship in social work, psychosocial therapy, art therapy or play therapy. Volunteers are mentored by the therapeutic staff in the community and are integrated into the curative program.
Volunteers from abroad
Every year, young volunteers from abroad come to Beit Elisha, mostly as part of their National Civilian Service. The interrnational volunteers are integrated into the work of the Beit Elisha workshops and have their own individual support program.
