Tuvia Community
The Tuvia Community serves 60 neglected children
ages 6–19, with special educational needs, who have
been removed from their homes by the Ministry of Welfare
and are in acute need of a therapeutic, family-based
environment. Tuvia seeks to empower the children to break
the cycle of violence, and discover their own powerful inner
resources to overcome their traumas. Tuvia provides them with
the social skills and academic credentials necessary to live
independent and productive lives as fully integrated members of Israeli society.
Based at Kibbutz Harduf, in the pastoral setting of the Galilean hills, Tuvia provides a safe haven for
neglected and abused children to heal emotionally and physically, nurture their souls, and develop faith
in their ability to create a happier future. Tuvia offers a wide range of therapeutic activities and classes
that strengthen the children’s self esteem including art, music, drama and movement therapies.
Children reside in family-style community homes overseen by house parents who are
professionals in the fields of education, social work and psychology.
The serene kibbutz atmosphere contributes to each child’s healing process. Tuvia organizes weekly
nature hikes, periodic cultural activities, offer the opportunity to tend the organic flower and vegetable
gardens, care for small animals and engage in therapeutic horseback riding.
